Station History

WZZQ(AM)

1230am signed on June 15, 1927. WZZQ(AM) was known as WBOW(AM) previously. In 1998, the FCC revoked the stations license because station president Michael Rice was convicted of twelve felonies involving sexual assult of children and subsequently jailed. WZZQ(AM) becomes WBUZ(AM) in June 2000. The FCC approves that call letter change on 10 July 2000.

WZZQ-FM

107.5fm signed on September 28, 1967. The AM call letter change was a sign of things to come, as on August 15, 2000, the FM flipped from Rock to Alternative as "107-5 The Edge". A rumor soon started within the radio business as to their use of "The Edge" as a moniker, as it's servicemarked by Jacobs Media. WZZQ changed monikers to "Z-107.5". MD/night guy Aaron Green is dismissed after a stunt/contest goes awry. According to published reports in The Terre Haute Tribune-Star, listeners won prizes for stopping at green lights, calling the station on their cell phone, and reporting other motorists' reactions. After calls from angry listeners, as well as an irate local police department, GM Dave Kirsch decided to dismiss Green on 28 March 2001. The FCC shut down the station, as well as all of the other Contemporary Media stations, on Thursday 4 October 2001.
