Carmel, April 2008

In late April, we went with friends Gary and Sandra for a 3-night stay in a cabin in Carmel Highlands. The cabin sits on property owned by Cynthia Williams, a woman I've known all my life. She and my parents were good friends; she hosted their wedding reception at her Carmel home. When I was born, they named me after her. In my childhood, my parents took me and my brothers to stay at Cynthia's nearly every summer, and I've continued to visit her ever since. She turned 93 this year and she's moving a bit slower, but she's still bright and lively and funny as hell.

Gary and Sandra look out from inside the cabin while David relaxes outside and watches the sunset Friday night.

No trip to the Carmel area is complete until you've driven soutward on Highway 1, heading toward Big Sur, past the wind-hewn blades in the sandstone cliffs...

... stopped for a photo op at Bixby Bridge ...

...and visited Nepenthe.

Next, take a stroll around Point Lobos State Park
