Friends of ours loaned us the use of their beautiful Spanish home perched on a hillside outside the city of Girona. It was perfectly situated for day trips, with Barcelona only 100 kilometers south and the French border less than half that distance to the north. The Mediterranean sea was a 30 minute drive east, and all the surrounding countryside of the Costa Brava region was dotted with scenic villages containing awe-inspiring medieval architecture.
