Introduction

This work had its origins during the Gulf War of 1991, and is now being revised to address the new realities that have arisen since the Emergency Day attacks of 11 September 2001. Its purpose is to provide tools and techniques for preventing the spread of a world crisis into one's own life. By this, I do not mean isolating one's self from world events -- indeed, quite the opposite: I mean actively combatting the spiritually damaging effects of crisis situations by taking specific, positive, purposeful actions in connection with those events.

The fifty ideas outlined here fall under five broad categories:

Any given idea might, of course, fall under more than one of these headings. Following each link above will lead you to the relevant subset of the fifty.

In the weeks to come, I will be expanding on each of the fifty ideas -- illustrating the meaning of each with a short definition and some relevant queries, and offering links and references to related on-line, print, and other resources. These ideas should be equally applicable to any crisis, of course, but you will find that many of the resources that are included are (understandably) geared to our present crisis, the aftermath of the Emergency Day attacks and the subsequent anti-terrorism campaign.

Your feedback is welcome and encouraged. You can submit suggestions for resources to be added to a page, or just send a comment about this site. And obviously, there are more than fifty ways -- let me know the ways that you find. Thanks for visiting, and enjoy!
