Who are the Greens?

The easy answer to that question is to suggest a look at www.greens.org -- where you will find much more information about the Green movement in all its various manifestations. There will be more information at this site in the near future regarding Green philosophy and outlooks, but for now, here's a quick summary:

The Green Movement is...

  • holistic
  • value-centered
  • grassroots
  • personal
  • transformative
  • And who are the Pocono Greens?

At the moment, a very informal network of activists and others in the Poconos who are interested in Green ideas and in finding ways to bring those ideas to practical fruition here where we live. In fairly short order, this network will become a non-profit membership organization.

What sorts of things could Greens do in the Poconos?

Good question. Here are some possible answers...
(If you see one of these displayed in bold type, we're working on it already; if you see a link, there's more information about that activity available.) And there are undoubtedly more possibilities. Please feel free to send along ideas...

What is your relationship to the Green Party?

The "Pocono Greens" organization is working towards non-profit status; therefore we will focus on educational and cultural work, leaving the electoral stuff to the Green Party chapters that are now forming in our area. It's a pretty good bet that there will be some membership overlap, but the Pocono Greens will be open to folks of all political persuasions that share our values.

    What are your immediate plans?

As you can see from the list above, we are working on the "Green Resources in the Poconos" (GRIP) Directory, participating in the annual Pike-Wayne Earth Day celebration, and on organizing other opportunities for discussion and education.
