14 March 2005 - Applications are now closed.
So you want to take over Absinthe Radio?
Do you love the music of the 1920s and 1930s? Do you have the ability to create and maintain a web site? If so, read the details below and, if you agree, email a short proposal to Vaz at [application closed] and include the following details:
- Who are you? Tell me about yourself.
- What is your interest in the Jazz Age?
- Why do you want to take over Absinthe Radio?
- What are some other web projects you've worked on?
- Lastly, let me know anything you think pertinent or interesting.
Keep your email to one or two pages and be patient! I'm giving up Absinthe Radio because I don't have time. This means it may take some time for me to get back to you.
Now, here are the details:
- I'm not looking for money. I'm looking for someone who will maintain and grow the site. You don't have to pay me anything unless there is a charge for transferring domain ownership.
- I reserve the right to change these details on a whim, but not after we've agreed on things. Hey, I'm giving this site away for free. Cut me some slack if I forget something or need to update this list. If I do, I'll note the change.
- Here's what I expect:
• I expect you to run a site called "Absinthe Radio" that streams the greatest hits of the 1920s and 1930s.
• I expect you to be creative and change as much of the site as you want as long as the focus remains on the Jazz Age.
• I would like credit as the founder of Absinthe Radio, but I don't really expect it.
- Here's what you agree to:
• Paying for the domains. There is a yearly fee for the domains. Make checks payable to "The Internet". If you don't want them all (see below), that's fine.
• There may be a fee for transferring domains. It might be $25 per domain, I'm not sure. I'll doublecheck once someone decides they want to take over. If there is a charge, the charge isn't from me and I won't get any money from it.
• There is a monthly fee for streaming the music. Our stream is hosted by Live365, but if you prefer another hosting solution, or have the bandwidth for your own stream, you don't have to use them.
- Still interested? Wow, really? OK, here's what you get:
• Absinthe Radio Domains:
- AbsintheRadio.com (200mb storage)
AbsintheRadio.net (100mb storage)
RadioAbsinthe.com (no hosting)
Absintheradio.com and .net are hosted on doteasy.com's free hosting program. This means you get free monthly hosting for the cost of renewing the domain ($25/year, I think). radioabsinthe.com is registered on Register.com with no hosting. Note: Transferring domains is the thing I know the least about, so be patient with me on this part. If you're knowledgable on the subject, all the better.
• All HTML and images used on Absintheradio.com
• All digital source imagery used for images on Absintheradio.com with the exception of the "Flapper on Beach" image used on the Tune In page. You can still use the image on that page, however.
• Live365 Account "AbsintheRadio"
106 MB used out of 300 MB
Full_Playlist, 8 hours 59 minutes
2227 listening hours in the last 30 days (as of 1/24/05)
66 Overall Favorite Station selections
4 VIP Favorite Station selections
4073 Presets
Rated: 9.21 average; 78 votes
Monthly cost: $24.00
I'm not sure how to handle the transferring of this account (it's not a built in feature), but we'll work it out.
• All the music from my collection in MP3 on CDs. That's about 16 hours of music (I've only put up 9 hours on Absinthe Radio to date). I'll throw in some radio dramas (War of the Worlds, Dracula (1938), etc.) if you're interested. Running special Halloween programming was one of the things I never got around to doing.
• Webring.com account "absintheradio" and listing in absinthe ring
• Email accounts:
- absintheradio@gmail.com
absintheradio@yahoo.com

- Here's what you don't get:
• Amazon.com Associates account
(you are free to create your own)
• Source music. I'm keeping my CD and record collection.
• Technical Support. You need to know how to create and operate a web site. I don't have time to run my own web site, let alone someone else's. If you have a question or want advice, by all means email me. I'm not trying to be a jerk. I'm just laying the ground rules here. Besides, I barely know how to do this stuff myself as it is.
• Butting in from me. Once the site is yours, it's yours. You don't have to worry about me telling you how to run it.
- Finally, you must be patient and easy to deal with! I appreciate that you want to take over Absinthe Radio and will do my best to respond to everyone. I apologize in advance to those I will have to turn down. I want this process to go as easy as possible, so thank you in advance for your patience.
