Welcome to Tarot Talk

Pour yourself a cup of something cozy and let's talk Tarot!

We finished out the year 2007 and what an interesting pattern I saw over the last several months (that I have just had a chance to update)! Look at all the challenging Major Arcanas, mixed in with Pentacles, and the arrows of love.

What do
you think of it, seeing it as a whole? To discuss and include your comments, email me with your experiences, suggestions, and opinions.

If you'd like to review my comments from previous weeks, you can visit my blog where I am now archiving them and inviting
your thoughts, too. All friendly participants are welcome.

Or if you'd like a more personal, interactive place to enjoy the company and thoughts of other Tarot enthusiasts, visit our Tarot Meetup site. There is a whole topic there for my Card of the Week, with lots of discussion. You don't have to live in this area to join us!

Three of Swords

I received this email from M.K on May 10: I have been visiting your site weekly for awhile now, and no surprise, the cards are always right on. I did not check in last week since I was involved with two friends who were both in the midst of despair, as was I, naturally. The Three of Swords for last week, uncanny. Sometimes it still truly amazes and excites me how deeply connected we all are.

Isn't that the truth! I certainly hope that M.K. and her friends are having a more Eight of Wands week by now!

Note: During Beltane and the Full Moon, I performed rites of purification, renewal and blessings for my deck. It will be interesting to see if some of the repeating cards and patterns continue to appear. -- Beth

Visitor A. A. writes:
It has slowly been dawning on me that the weekly cards are reflecting my feelings regarding the pet food recall. As companion to two cats who almost died of "acute renal failure" two weeks before the recall but three weeks after their annual check-ups and blood work showed they were in perfect 3+ year old health, I have a more than passing interest in this topic.

It appears that first the manufacturer delayed making the recall, then recalled some but not all the tainted foods and now the recall is expanding, plus the exact cause seems unclear. Rat poison or plastic? Only gravy style foods or some dry too? Only from Menu Foods or from every company dealing with the wheat gluetin vendor?
What has gone wrong? When will we all be able to trust the pet food supply and the pet food supplier's integrity? With each new round of information, I'm re-experiencing very-unpleasant negative feelings.

PS: My furry children are fine now. I only wish that were true for
all the furry children and their companions.

Thanks for this important insight, A.A. Reading it, my hair went up, for it really does ring true for me as well, but I'd not thought of it. I am so glad your babies are okay, but my heart aches for all the others who may not even realize what is happening...

What do other folks think? Please share!

March 26 - April 1:

Five of Pentacles

We have a visitor who generously shares her experience with this card:
I haven't commented on the card of the week before, but this week I was really struck by the reminder that we're all in the same pool of consciousness, riding the same waves. Your thoughts on this week's card included the notion of not receiving available warmth and comfort. And this week I had an epiphany: My habitual dissatisfaction stems directly from my refusal to give up the hope, formed when I was very young, that my mother will come and take care of all my needs. If comfort doesn't come from her, I don't allow myself to keep it. I've insisted on waiting for her, because it's been too painful to admit that she could not be what I needed.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts on your Web page.
Blessings, --A

N. L. of Cary, NC read this about the Justice card and offers some great perspective:
As Hilary Anderson says: "...swords can be utilized as a new power at our disposal to penetrate the shadow over the Tarot tradition and combat the demonic projections cast upon us.

"Psychologically, this archetype (pronounced arc-a-type) still serves to weigh matters coming before her and with a practical turn of mind takes farsighted protective measures so that the demands of necessity are met. It is she who creates and protects inner space and with her persuasive words honors alien and dark elements, bringing them into reconciliation with the whole."

My own comment about this card: I find it fascinating that it came up during the week I was on my spiritual retreat. There was one incident that my affinity group was involved in, that was supposed to be playful, but turned into more serious strife. Not that serious, but enough that at the time, I remembered Mary Greer's comment, “This card has always reminded me of a grass fight; starting off as lots of fun, but somebody always ends up going home crying.”
