Now that's a solution I never thought of--just ask Nick to please
change how he spells his name! I think there's also a misspelling of
Mydland in there somewhere...

A hopeful reminder going out to the WELL.

I'll be at two bookstore events next week for the launch of the
paperback of the Complete Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics:

1. Tuesday, May 8, 7 pm at Book Passage in Corte Madera.
2. Saturday, May 12, 7 pm at Copperfield's Books in Petaluma.

Hope to see some of you there!

It's been quite awhile since I posted any news about The Complete
Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics.

However, the hoopla surrounding the band's 50th anniversary has
reached Simon & Schuster, and they plan to publish a version of the
book to capitalize on the swirl of PR, with a new cover (which I
very much dislike, unfortunately), and without any new content. It
will be a hardcover, which is nice, but other than that...well, it's
hard to muster much enthusiasm.

If you'd like to follow the life and times of the book, I do have a
Facebook page where I try to keep folks posted. It's located at
https://www.facebook.com/CompleteAnnotatedGratefulDeadLyrics

You can find a photo of the new cover there. I may also soon post my
annotations to the newly-rediscovered lyrics to "Revolutionary
Hamstrung Blues" on the FB page, since S&S was unable to include it
in the "new" edition.

Sorry about the cover debacle.

I'm glad the book will be widely distributed again, David. Let's
keep updating the content ... among ourselves, and at our leisure.

That cover feels distinctly creepy, like a deceased individual
rather than a skull and death as some kind of universal. Just my
take on it.

Seems to me that a brust of sales at this juncture could encourage
the publisher to go forward with an updated and expanded version.

I treasure my T shirt with the old cover on it. I keep it for best.

I wish Jim Carpenter still had some of those t-shirts. Mine is
pretty well worn out....

I bought two, wore one out.

I guess a re-print is better than out-of-print.

Sure thing. But it has never stopped selling--always has good
numbers of Amazon. Hell, one of these days it might even earn back
the advance! But yes, I'm fine with the whole re-issue thing. And
they've said it sales dip, they'll bring back the original cover.

Yikes, I just looked at the new cover! Especially if the original
illustrations are still included, it is very much a mismatch with
the content. I guess it is a misguided attempt to tap the illiterate
deadhead market.

More Thomas Wolfe.....on pg 332 of my copy of _Of Time and the
River_ 1935

"Summer has come and gone, come and gone*...........They will
think of men long dead, of men now buried in the earth, of frost and
silence long ago, of a forgotten face and moment of lost time, and
they will think of things they have no words to utter."

*This one seems obvious, but the quote also reminds me of
Franklins's Tower and Ripple(?)

Lovely quote. And yes, I think it resonates. Someday I wish Hunter
would do a memoir and talk about his reading life and his
influences.

That would be awesome and I would be the first in line to buy the
hardcover and read it!...more rabbit holes to willingly fall into...

It's a great book idea, and I bet Hunter could use the cash.
