Inkwell: Authors and Artists

    

Starting June 11, Joe Nick Patoski, author of the recently released
biography "Willie Nelson: An Epic Life," joins us to share fascinating
details of the life and loves of this singing, songwriting giant.

From June 25 to July 9, Salon staff writer Farhad Manjoo, author of "True
Enough: Learning to Live in a Post-Fact Society," examines how the media
increasingly feeds the public "truthiness" instead of solid news, and the
problems this blurring wreaks on the political process.

July 9-23, gardeners will want to bookmark the conversation with Jeff 
Gillman, who holds a doctorate in horticulture, as he separates fact from 
fiction when it comes to backyard produce, as detailed in his book, "The 
Truth About Organic Gardening: Benefits, Drawbacks, and the Bottom Line."

On July 23, journalist Brendan Koerner begins a two-week visit with us to
share some of the grim facts from "Now The Hell Will Start," the chronicle
of Herman Perry, a tried-and-executed African-American WWII soldier who,
while stationed in northern India, murdered a white officer and fled into
the jungle to escape the horrendous treatment the U.S. Army inflicted on its

We've got two more days with Scott Rosenberg as he talks about his 
history of blogging, "Say Everything."  Next up will be Brian O'Dea, 
with "HIGH: Confessions of an International Drug Smuggler" starting
September 16th. Brian will talk about his fascinating journey through
high stakes dealing, the prison system, the state of drug laws today, 
and whatever we want to talk about.  On September 30, we will look 
back at America's most creative year in music in "By the Time We Got 
to Woodstock," by Bruce Pollock.

The discussion with Christian Crumlish on Designing Social Interfaces
continues for a week.

Coming up right after that, starting on Wednesday the 11th, we will
talk with Brian Dear about the rise of Plato, one of the forerunners of
modern online communities, and about his adventures building Eventful,
the site where local populations demand live artists visit them --
successfully! You'll note that Brian Dear's conversation is a different
approach to the question of when an author might get the most out of
Inkwell, in that Brian is working on his book, not distributing it. 
This could be an exciting precedent.

Connie Rosenblum joins us to talk about Boulevard of Dreams, her
extensively researched and illustrated tale of the history of the
Bronx, and by extension, of American cities, starting on November 25th
and taking us into December.
