The way I heard it was that Gardner Dozois is alleged to have said, upon
viewing Martha dangling from the end of the bungee cord, "My god! I see
what they are using for bait! But what do you supposed they are fishing
for?"

much.

Well, I didn't hear anything directly, only in the line of people talking
afterward, of course. Gardner's the kind of guy who has twelve lines for
any occasion; he was supposed to have yelled "Don't do it, Martha, I'll buy
the story!" before I plummeted.

'Course, I didn't have a story on his desk and when I next sent one he
bounced it. Boingdy boingdy it's the story currently in _Starlight 2_.

I like "boingdy boingdy" as a song of triumph, and would preface all
my most cutting remarks that way if I had ever bungee-jumped.

Boingdy boingdy, pearls before swine.

Boingdy boingdy, you're no John F. Kennedy.

Boingdy boingdy, takes one to know one.

What do you mean "we," white man? Boingdy boingdy.

He's a character on Animaniacs. Sounds like George Harrison ca. "Help!"
