I travelled 6+ hours, in my '67 Chevy camper, to an East Coast sing
thing, from TN(I think) to Durham, to and meet gans, uncle john and
beth owls's daughter. I wrecked the old camper backing out of Beth
and John's driveway, and AAA had to send 3 wreckers. Mid-nineties?

Thank you David! I've always appreciated your compliment , which has
given me the confidence to sing more. I don't get a lot of
compliments on my singing voice, but I've made a few people cry
while interpreting a song, but that's alway an unexpected
compliment, too.

The microphone is such a daunting thing. It's been fun to watch you
develop your skills over the years- I hope we someday have another
chance to pick around a campfire!

I used to love sitting in my cousins house when some folk singer
pals came over. He'd get out his old guitar and we'd all sing. They
don't do that any more. Pity.

Too bad. In my social circle, bringing guitar and food around to peoples'
houses is the standard get-together. Most of my friends sing and/or
play although hardly any of them make their main living that way. And
everybody cooks. Music, food, and conversation are life's essentials for
me.

Growing up in small town/rural East Tennessee, everybody played
music. At least it seemed that way. It was something to do. Of
course, in my current hometown of Asheville NC, one can't throw a
rock w/o hitting a musician. I was going to make a joke and say, "a
musician or a banjo player".

Me and <bblock> McGee (pardon the pun) flew out to stay with <drive>
and see the Dead and hang out with other wellperns at <tnf>s
birthday party in the basement of the Psychedelic shop, 24 years ago
this week. Bill Graham died as we were deplaning and going to
<drive>s house, which made things extra weird.

(nana) was the first person I ever met I traveled out beyond 128 to
meet her. She had moved to Boston & decided we needed to have wops
too. so she gathered up a little tribe of us

I have a vague memory of the first Cambridge/ wop being help by the
river somewhere...anyone remember?
The Cambridge / Boston area wellfolk started to meet on & off some
folks sadly forgotten but over time (ari) (betsys) (tigoe) (mcdee)
(ffitter) (abbess) (dales) (mnemonic)

The farthest afield I've met a well pern was (naomin) and family in
Paris
my most recent meeting (tori) in Montreal

By the time I arrived in Boston in '96, the frequent f2f gatherings
were dying out. It was wonderful as I started finding my way around
Boston, and helped convince re-fertig to join, but by the current
century started, "online" was just another piece in already-too-busy
lives. But I was so grateful for the community back when I arrived.
It felt a bit like I'd transformed one set of Sunday brunch partners
(bay area) for another one that was new, but otherwise equally a lot
of fun.

I did meet the former <antenna> in Prague, where he was an amazingly
hospitable host.

kd I still have a pleasant memory of sitting with you on a little
wall in San Francisco's Union Square many years ago. It adds so
much to the login to have met in person.
