Genesis 19

And the two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening; and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom: and when Lot saw them he got up to meet them; and he bowed with his face to the ground;

And he said, See, now, my lords, turn now to the house of your servant, and spend the night, and wash your feet, and then you may rise and you may go on your ways. And they said, No, we will spend the night in the square.

But he persisted with them strongly, and they went with him, and entered into his house; and he prepared a meal for them, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

Now, before they laid down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, from young to old, all of the people to the last one, surrounded the house:

And they called to Lot, and they said to him, Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them to us, that we may know them.

But Lot went outside the door to them, and shut the door after him,

And said, my brothers, do not do this evil.

Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me bring them to you now, and you do to them what is good in your eyes: but do nothing to these men; for they came under the shadow of my roof.

And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one came in as an alien, and he would now be a judge: now will we treat you worse than them. And they pressed strongly against the man, Lot, and they moved to break down the door.

But the men reached out their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut the door.

And they struck the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and large: so they gave up trying to find the door.

And the men said unto Lot, Who else is here with you? A son-in-law, or your sons, or your daughters, or anyone who belongs to you in the city, bring them out of this place:

For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is so great before the face of the Yahweh that Yahweh sent us to destroy it.

So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law who were pledged to his daughters, and said, Get up, get out of this place; for Yahweh will destroy this city. But in the eyes of his sons-in-law he seemed as if he was joking.

And when the morning came, the angels hastened Lot, saying, Get up, take your wife, and your two daughters that are here; or you will be swept away in the punishment of the city.

And when he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and his wife's hand, and his two daughters' hands; for Yahweh was merciful to him: and they led and set him outside the city.

And when he had brought them out, he said, Flee! For your life, do not look behind you, and do not stop anywhere between the plain and the hills. Flee! or you will be swept away.

And Lot said to them, No, my lords

See, now, your servant has found favor in your eyes, and you have magnified your kindness that showed me in saving my life; but I cannot flee to the mountain, lest the disaster overtake me, and I die:

See, now, this city is near to run to, and it is a little one: Oh, let me flee there, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.

And he said to him, See, I will grant you this request as well, that I will not overthrow this city about which you speak.

Hurry, flee there; for I cannot do anything until you reach it. For this reason he called the name of the city Zoar.

The sun was shining on the earth when Lot reached Zoar.

Then Yahweh rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from Yahweh from the skies;

So he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and the vegetation of the land.

But his wife looked behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
