E-Democracy and Deliberative Democracy
How do technology and democracy interact?

David Brake - LSE MSc Coursework for PS407 - Citizenship and the Media

ABSTRACT

This paper looks at the ways in which computer mediated communications may affect how democratic deliberation takes place in practice using the framework for such deliberation outlined by Coleman and Gotze in Bowling Together and applying research that has been done into CMC effects. It concludes with a brief overview of the other ways in which online communication could enhance democratic participation more generally and thus have an indirect impact on deliberative democracy.
