Organizational Functions not Structure

When people draw diagrams of their organization they tend to focus on the organizational chart - who reports to whom. They tend to assign functions to those boxes and people and assume that the functions are covered. This worked in a world where information moved slowly but in today's rapidly changing world a different way of thinking about organizations is needed. A way which allows for rapid change, adaptation, continuous improvement, change and diversity of organizational form.

This graphical language is focused on organizational functions not on organizational structure. It allows the organization to track and attend to all the necessary functions in a standardized way even though the organization is changing and improving.

To see how it works you have to step through the various functions in a simple organization. Once you´ve done that see how it works in a more complex system
