CONSENT CALENDAR, 5/11/99

RECOMMENDATION: That the Council concurs with the comments in the letter from the Sierra Club and Citizens for the Eastshore State Parks opposing additional hotel development in the Berkeley Marina Plan and requests that the City Manager communicate the council's position on this matter to the Waterfront, Planning and Parks and Recreation Commissions as well as to city staff working on this project.

BACKGROUND: Please see the attached letters. It would be best for the council to express itself on this controversial matter sooner rather than later so as not to waste staff, consultants and Commissioners time. In addition, in 1986, the voters of Berkeley overwhelmingly passed Mesaures P and Q which were in favor of open space rather than development at Berkeley's waterfront.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: NONE
