None of us proclaim to be experts in race management, publicity or recruiting, however, many of us have become more involved in driving and participating in women's racing on San Francisco Bay in the last few years. One thing we have all noticed is that in many women's races, participation is sometimes less than anticipated.
In 1995, we had several unfortunate scheduling conflicts with women's events which led to lower than expected turnout. With the racing schedule on the Bay, we know it is hard enough for yacht clubs to schedule these events without overlapping a major regular event, but this year, we hope to help clubs recognize when
The face of women's racing has changed on the Bay in the last few years. The type of women who are participating is these events has evolved and grown. With more women than ever involved in competitive sailboat racing -- that in itself a change from a few years ago -- women's events are a draw for women boat owners, women crew and new drivers. We want to help ensure the continuation and development of competitive women's racing on San Francisco Bay.
Over the past few seasons, several women have worked very hard to develop mailing and contact lists of women racers and potential women skippers and crew. Used primarily in the promotion of women's events such as the Adam's Cup, we would like to offer that list to yacht clubs who would like to use it to promote their upcoming women's races and events. We are committed to growing that list also, since most of us make it area regattas. And we have tried to break down the categories of women sailors to make it easier for you.
You may obtain the mailing list in label form only (we do charge cost for the labels) sorted by:
1 -- Previous women's event participants, typically, boat owners, spouses, etc.
2 -- Women crew/drivers, typically, experienced women crew and/or women with access to boats for women's events.
3 -- Experienced women racers, both crew and drivers, typically the perennial participants in every one of these events.
