Tower work, May, 2002:

KZSC has now finished it's latest upgrade, this time to 10,000 watts.
The first page shows the move from 10 watts to 1250 watts and the original installation of the ROHN SSV tower.
The second page shows various views on the tower as of April, 2002.
The third page shows the first attempt at installing the extra 40 ft. section by helicopter on March 20, 2002.
This forth page shows the second successful try at installing the extra 40 ft. section by helicopter, May 18, 2002.
The fifth page shows the final installation of the new transmitter and new directional antenna

Before KZSC could install it's new directional antenna, additional tower space needed to be installed for the cellular services co-located on the structure. Adding that extra vertical real estate turned out to be tricky. Like threading a big, 4000 pound needle into a 10 inch opening. Too high up and space restricted to use a crane, a helicopter lift was really the only way possible to do the deed. A sky crane!

The first time we tried, the helicopter could not hold the pole steady enough for the tower crew to grab it. This time, we used a smaller helicopter, and a shorter support line. This added just enough control that the crew managed to install the entire thing in less than an hour.

The solution for placing the monopole!
