MAY

Wednesday 1
Outside the realm of community dance, but near and dear to BACDS' soul, sunrise of May Day (or "May Morning") features more Morris dancing than you can shake a stick (or hanky) at. Come see Berkeley Morris, the West Coast's first morris team and still going strong, dance up the sun at Inspiration Point in Tilden Park in the hills above Berkeley. Or in the Baylands at the end of Embarcadero in Palo Alto, watch Mayfield Morris and Sword, Deer Creek Morris and members of Fools Choice Morris caper and cheer as the sun rises once more. If you're interested in Morris, this is a must!

That evening, there's the contradance at NFM in Berkeley, featuring the Erik Hoffman calling to an Open Band featuring The Scalawags (Brenday Dowle, Susan Sullivan, Dan Warrick and Karen Warrick).

The San José English dance happens at SJS. Jody McGeen, fore of Mayfield Morris, and probably pretty tired at this point, nevertheless will lead dances, with music by Greenwich Mean Time (Vaughn Wolff, Stan and Susan Kramer and Kay Thorne.

Friday 3
The downtown Palo Alto English dance at MT. Bob Fraley teaches and leads dances with music by the Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Stan and Susan Kramer).

Unfortunately, the 4th Saturday English country dance for experienced dancers is cancelled ... happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Sunday 26
The Square/contra moves for this time only to the Thousand Oaks Baptist Church in Berkeley, starting at 7pm, as Jim Saxe calls to the music of dotGals (Susan Sullivan, Kathy Hirsh, Karren Warrick and Adam Cavan). The Church is at the corner of Catalina and Colusa, right off the east end of Solano Avenue, at the north end of Berkeley.

Wednesday 29
Two chances to try your voice at calling!

There's a contradance at NFM featuring a community band, Hell Broke Loose in Berkeley. If you're interested in playing, call Kathrine Gardner at 415/726-3495, if you want to call, contact Erik Hoffman at 510/444-4397 or email him at Erikthor@aol.com.

Friday 31
Special location for Palo Alto English dance!

The downtown Palo Alto English dance moves for this date only to Midtown: specifically St Mark's Episcopal Church, 600 Colorado Ave, Palo Alto (a few blocks west of Middlefield). The series will return to MT for the June 7 dance. Bob Fraley calls the dances to the music of the Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Stan and Susan Kramer).
