The New York Times has an article on Kathleen Blee's book, Inside Organized Racism: Women in the Hate Movement. The first chapter is online.

BloggerPro has launched. About a year after I expected it to when I wrote my review for wired. It has some great features. I could have used the draft feature so the bratmobile post below wouldn't appear until I finished it.

There are times when I wish I could dance. Like after watching "Fosse" on "Great Performances" which follows "American Family" tonight on most PBS stations. In 1973, Bob Fosse won an Emmy for "Liza with a Z," an Oscar for "Cabaret", and a Tony for "Pippin." There are numbers from all three in this production of the Tony winning show which was taped during the final performances on Broadway last August. What the compilation of dance numbers from Fosse's work lacks in narrative power, it makes up for with the excellent songs and dancing by stars Ben Vareen, Ann Reinking and company. And at least the prostitutes in "Big Spender" from "Sweet Charity" can sing in dance, unlike the ones being featured tonight on 20/20 Downhill er "Downtown" (the segment may turn out to be a probing, subtle, insightful look at pimps and prostitutes, but the promos are so sleazy). Between acts, Reinking and Vareen talk about Fosse. While I can't dance, I can watch this wonderful show and my DVDs of "Cabaret" and "The Pajama Game." (also appeared on TVBarn).

I never make New Year's resolutions, but I do like some of these, particularly the one from Ray Bradbury.

George Divoky's Planet (Sunday NYT Mag with an audio interview):

This is a story about global warming and a scientist named George Divoky,
who studies a colony of Arctic seabirds on a remote barrier island off the
northern coast of Alaska. I mention all this at the start because a reader
might like to come to the point, and what could be more urgent than the very
health and durability of this planet we call Earth?
