I recently watched my DVD of Vertigo again. Widescreen Cinema has a tour of the locations it was shot at. There is a transcript with photos of a Hot Soup radio piece on Vertigo locations. There is a site called Northern California Movie Locations which has a Vertigo page.

The Chronicle ran an article when it played at the Castro in 1996. They also had two stories on Kim Novak (who came for opening night), the restoration, and a review. It set a record for the Castro, making $107,275 during the first week. There was also a article on favorite bay area films by bay are directors.

Every year there is a Vertigo tour for all the visiting filmmakers to the SF Film Festival. This site has a link to somebody who gives the tour along with another list of locations.

The Palace of the Legion of Honor is free on Tuesdays at least through June. A good exhibit of dada and surrealist art is there through April 28th. The scene with the painting of Carlotta was shot in Gallery 6.

Howard Kurtz has a story about a piece for the New York Times Magazine, Is Youssouf Malé a Slave? The Times ran an editors' note on Feb. 21st about the questions raised about the story. There is a profile of Finkel who also wrote an article on Afghanistan in last Sunday's NYT mag. Finkel is standing between Tom Brokaw and Jennifer Gonnerman in a photo taken when he won the Livingston Award for International Reporting for "Desperate Passage" which is linked below. He wrote Alpine Circus and was interviewed about it on the public radio program "Only A Game."

I saw Elmore Leonard read his rules for writing at Stacey's on Tuesday. His new book has been option by FilmFour and Don Cheadle hopes to star in and direct it.
